Horizon Science Academy Dayton Downtown has started to use a computerized reading program that tests reading comprehension of our students. Our students select books on their reading level, read independently, and take comprehension reading tests on the computer. Each book is worth a certain number of points based on its length and reading level. Students get a percentage of these points based on how many of the test questions they get right. The program tracks their progress over the course of the school year. Since the beginning of this school year our students have read 1,161 books. Our goal is to read 5,000 books till the end of this school year. Horizon teachers indicate that the students benefited from the AR program and their level of reading comprehension has significantly improved.
